Solidigm presents Optane replacement

Remember when Intel came out with this wonderful SSD offering called Optane, and then decided they didn’t want to make it any more? Groans could be heard across the industry. Luckily they sold their NAND business to SK Hynix, who created Solidigm. Now I got to see what they’ve been up to.

The part of their presentation that really caught my eye was the introduction of the D7-P5810, a New Ultra-Fast SSD. It is more than 15 times more endurance (50 Drive writes per day versus 3 DWP before), 2X the performance of their competitors, and it’s storage class memory at 20% of non-NAND options.

They are coupling this drive their Cloud Storage Acceleration Layer product, and positioning it as an Optane replacement. See? Problem solved.

I’ll be quite honest here that my focus on data protection leaves me glassy-eyed at deep talk about SLC, QLC, NAND, and Storage-class memory, etc. But their story sounded very interesting for those who are bemoaning the loss of Optane. Check it out!
